Why Glycerin is added to soaps?

Commonly available chemical based soaps are made with a soap base or soap noodle or surfactants. They add and label glycerin as an externally added ingredient and as the main benefit. Glycerine acts as a moisturizing agent and keeps the skin soft and nourished.  

Soap base or soap noodles are readily available soaps in the form of noodles or brick. These are made by heating oils with NaoH at a high temperature to extract glycerin. Glycerin is found so abundant in natural soaps (like Snaana soaps).
